Today's modern office is inevitably moving towards a new conceptual design. The basic goal is to emphasize the relationship of man and his work environment, with the assumption that comfortable atmosphere raises the quality of work and life. The design of office furniture, pay special attention to ergonomics and anthropometry with comfort and creativity.

Ergonomics of workplace is reflected in recognizing the capabilities and limitations of employees at workplace. The main task is to adjust the maximum employee work environment. Each employee has his characteristic traits, what individual physical, mental or other characteristics associated with that type of work done, so that the "classic" work environment does not correspond to each employee.

Anthropometry is the branch of anthropology that deals with the measurement of size, weight and proportions of the human body. These measurements often are used to determine the physical characteristics of certain groups of people and the assessment of their health. People differ by height, sex, physical condition, etc. No person is "average" in more than two dimensions, which we come to the conclusion that in fact there is no "average" person. Jobs are formed according to the proportions of the human body that correspond to "average" population, which in most cases meet most users while neglected the lower part of the population that does not belong to "average." Using anthropometric principles can reduce the possibility of spinal and muscular systems.

If the work is associated with the computer, it is necessary to ensure proper use and ergonomic furniture solutions that reduce the possibility of injury of hands, neck and spine. The working desk is one very important element that makes the work area. The height of working table must adapt also to work chair and individual tasks. Great advantage and need is the possibility changing the height of worktops no matter of the size of the office or the number of people who work there. In developed western countries, the legal obligation of employers is to ensure the employees possibility of adjusting the table height.


Not only should the design of the working table, but also the working chair be ergonomic. The chair must adjust seat height, armrests, high backrest, the mechanism of sync and possibly the mechanism that allows active sitting. Working chairs on which we sit almost continuously by eight or more hours should encourage the active and dynamic sitting. These chairs were developed on the model of the famous exercise ball where were added convenience legs, and later a flexible support for the back, leaving the possibility of free movement.
